Airport Partner Vision

A product vision pitch deck evolved to become part of the playbook for how Uber partners with Airports.

For the passenger whose flight has just landed, the product team wanted to provide a friction-free process from the moment they land to the moment they arrive at their destination. To achieve this, I conceived, designed, and crafted a set of concepts the Airport BizDev team could use when approaching airport partners like Pearson in Toronto, Paine Field in Washington, or even LAX. Together with the product org, I designed an end-to-end journey that is integrated into the airport environment.

From the digital app to the physical experience, riders would be supported by a consistent wayfinding language and relevant, real-time information to guide them to the pickup location. This 4-week long project lived on as the playbook for how Uber approached venues like Airports, Train Stations, Hotels, and Arenas or Stadiums.

Paine Field in Everett, WA was a nearly-completed new airport opening in 6 months. Paine approached Uber about an exclusive partnership and I was tasked with leading the design of the ride-share experience pitch. I arranged for us to visit the airport twice while under construction so that we could document and model the locations and surfaces.

Paine Field had no strategy for wayfinding, so we proposed blending in the Uber design system with other signage they would need beyond just ride sharing.

Arrival

Travelers are tired and stressed, and they're looking for the quickest way to get to the curb and into their ride. Thoughtfully placed, uncluttered wayfinding will lead them on their way.

The secure pathway leading from the terminal with contextually relevant, projection-mapped information is displayed as passengers arrive from the most recent flight. Taking advantage of the airport’s small scale.

Pathway to Arrivals

The passenger is on her way and is now thinking about which mode of transportation to take home. The first-of-its-kind in an airport, a projected display on the floor animates relevant, real-time information to help travelers get their ride home.

Baggage Claim

A passenger waits for her checked bag and has a few moments to relax. She's taking it all in enjoying the sleek terminal design with minimalist, thoughtful branding activations relevant to her before she leaves Paine Field.

Transportation Center

A passenger is whisking through, ready to get in his car. But if he's waiting for a few minutes for his ride or can't remember what the traffic is to downtown Seattle, he'll glance over at the wall where he'll find displays telling him all the information he needs to know and exactly what to expect.

Wayfinding and Staging signage for both Riders and Drivers

Curbside & Staging

A passenger is ready to hop in her car now. Dedicated Uber pick-up zones split between Premium and UberX or POOL rides make it clearer. Features include directive curbsides, a rider bench and canopy, and visible but tasteful Uber signs. Premium passengers enjoy zero wait times thanks to staging positions of 4-5 premium vehicles right at the curbside using our PIN dispatch technology.
